February 2016 Featured DancerBre Miller
This month’s featured dancer is Bre Miller from Albany, NY, USA. We interviewed Bre this past month and are pleased to share the interview with you. Enjoy!
DA: How old were you when you started dancing?
Bre: I started recreational dancing when I was 8. I joined the competition team when I turned 10. I’m currently in my 3rd year competing.
DA: What studio do you currently dance at?
Bre: I dance at Dance Dimensions in Albany, NY under the direction of Karen Walco (featured in the gallery below) and Heather Pielo. Dance Dimensions is the only studio I have ever danced at.
DA: What is your favorite dance style?
Bre: My favorite style of dance is jazz! I love to perform and sassy numbers using face and personality is something I’m really good at.
DA: Who has been the most inspirational teacher that you have had and why?
Bre: My most inspirational teacher has been Miss Karen (Karen Walco) This is my 2nd year with her and she has pushed me to be a better dancer in every class I take with her. She choreographs most of my solos, my duos, and she also makes all my solo costumes! She works really hard and I appreciate all she does for me and everyone at our studio.
DA: What obstacles have you had to overcome in order to keep dancing?
Bre: I’ve had to work on my memory and getting choreography down quicker in group dances. Also, it’s difficult to keep good grades and dance but I do my best. I do lots of homework at dance between classes.
DA: What do you do when you feel as though you want to give up?
Bre: I NEVER want to give up! I think about all my family and teachers who helped me, and all the time, energy, and effort that is put into me just to do what I love. I keep going because I want to make myself, my family, and my teachers proud.
DA: What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given during your dance career?
Bre: The best advice I have been given is to always be humble and don’t let any issues get in your way of achieving your goals.
DA: What do you foresee yourself doing with dance in the future?
Bre: I plan to attend college for dance and we will see where life takes me from there! I still have a while, I’m only 12!
Best wishes to Bre and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for her. If you enjoyed this interview please leave a comment below. Do you want to be featured? Tell us why and we would be happy to consider it.
