This month’s featured dancer is Sammie VanHook. We interviewed Sammie this past month and are happy to share the interview with you. Enjoy!
DA: How old were you when you started dancing?
Sammie: I was two years old when I started dancing. It was a ballet and tap combo class.
DA: What studio do you currently dance at?
Sammie: I have danced at Tapio School of Dance & Gymnastics in Mt. Pleasant SC since I was 2 years old. I am 10 years old. I live with my parents Jon and Kimmie , my sisters Claire and Carson, and my puppy Roxy.
DA: What is your favorite dance style?
Sammie: I love Jazz and Musical Theater because I get to be sassy and show my personality off on stage.
DA: Who has been the most inspirational teacher that you have had and why?
Sammie: My dance teacher Mrs. Kim because she pushes me hard to keep becoming a better dancer every day.
DA: What obstacles have you had to overcome in order to keep dancing?
Sammie: I miss a lot of birthday parties and things my friends are doing because I have dance and dance competitions but it is all worth it in the end! I love doing anything dance all the time.
DA: What do you do when you feel as though you want to give up?
Sammie: I just keep trying and practicing over and over. I try to have confidence that I know I can achieve whatever goal it is!
DA: What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given during your dance career?
Sammie: Before we go on stage, My dance teacher Ms. Kim always says: Smile, Point your toes, Straighten your knees, have fun, and give it your all 🙂
DA: What do you foresee yourself doing with dance in the future?
Sammie: Right now want to dance with Disney World (did I mention I love Disney world 😉 , be a dance teacher and have an awesome dance studio 🙂
