DA: Why did you get into Photography?

Bill: Ever since I can remember, I always loved art and really enjoyed drawing and painting.  My favorite high school class was art.  The subject matter I was mostly interested in was people and objects.  On my 15th birthday, my parents gave me the choice of either a 35mm SLR camera or a moped as a birthday present.  Guess what I picked ?   I shot for a few years, mostly people and landscapes.  During that time, I experimented with filters and joined some photography clubs.  Then college, girls, work. etc. got in the way and photography had to take a backseat for a while but I still pursued my painting interests.  Eventually I got into sculpture and building life size statues in various mediums.  Eventually I picked up the camera again, not to create art, but out of necessity because I needed to take quality photos of my art work.  The iPhone wasn’t cutting it anymore.  I had forgotten how much I enjoyed photography and got the bug again.  Like always, I am primarily interested in photographing the human form and landscapes. I particularly like dance photography.  I really enjoy the motion that you can capture photographing dancers as they are moving.  Lately, I’ve been incorporating various mediums like colored powder and smoke into my dance photography to accentuate the motion.  Like my paint brush and chisel, the camera is just another tool to create my artwork.

DA: What is your favorite location to shoot?

Bill: I love the beach at sunset, decaying old buildings and the studio.

DA: Who inspires you as a photographer?

Bill: The talented dance students that I photograph.  Each dancer brings a unique and challenging element to my work.  It keeps it fresh and inspiring.

DA: Do you have a personal favorite shot (or two)?

Bill: I really like the dance images I created using colored powders.  It was challenging both for me, the dancers and the assistants but the results were spectacular !!

DA: If you could have the perfect photoshoot…who and where?

Bill: There could never be one perfect photoshoot. Every dancer has something unique about them and it’s my responsibility as a photographer to capture that.  I have great moments with each dancer and when it happens, there’s a connection that’s hard to describe, but you know it’s there.

DA: What is one piece of equipment that you could not live without?

Bill: My Canon 70-200 f2.8 lens without a doubt !!

DA: Any advice to help dancers relax when having a photoshoot?

Bill: Close your eyes prior to your dance move and pretend no one but you is in the room.  Then just dance, don’t think, just dance.

DA: How can someone get in touch with you?

Bill: The best way to communicate with me is through Facebook, Instagram or email.  My email is wkendzierski@gmail.com or Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/bill.kendzierski  and Instagram at (@wkendzierski)

DA: What is the best place to view your work online?

Bill: My website: http://elysianmodels.com/ or Instagram
