Austin was chosen by the dance community as our 2017 Instagram Dancing King
DA: How old were you when you started dancing and how old are you now?
Austin: I started dancing when I was 8 years old and now I’m 14.
DA: How did you get into dance?
Austin: I got into dance because my family and I always danced around at home for fun listening to Black-Eyed Peas or Lady Gaga and etc. So my mom’s best friend’s daughter danced and she called us up and asked if I wanted to take a class and I said “YES!” In a heartbeat. So I took a hip-hop class and the teacher wanted me to stay for 3 more classes jazz, modern, and contemporary. She talked to my mom after and she said “I would love for him to be on my team” so the next day I was starting competition team rehearsals! For the next 4 year I was involved heavy with competition team and I knew that it wasn’t the route for me. I started getting professional world by attending major conventions and being seen as well as recognized for assistant positions such as a Camp Pulse Lead Counselor at Pulse Dance Experience which I won this summer and touring with this year along with Revel Dance Convention.
DA: What studio do you currently dance at?
Austin: I currently train by touring with the convention I assist at called The Pulse Dance Experience which is an amazing experience that everyone should try out! When I’m not on the tour I train at Motiv Dance Studio in Orlando, FL.
DA: What is your favorite dance style?
Austin: All styles of Dance is my favorite but I would have to say my overall favorite style of dance would be Contemporary because It allows me to let go and by myself and show the emotion I’m feeling inside.
DA: Who has been the most inspirational teacher that you have had and why?
Austin: The most inspirational teacher I have had is Nancy O’ Meara. She has taught me show much not just from dance but for changing me as a person in such a short amount of time of meeting her this Summer and touring with her this year. She is one of the best choreographers out there who choreograph for Charlie Puth, Paula Abdul, and etc. Also other teachers such as Lane Napper and Gil Duldulao
DA: What obstacles or challenges have you had to overcome in order to keep dancing?
Austin: An obstacle I’ve overcome to keep dancing is Bullying. This past year especially dealing with hate from friends I know from the past. It’s sad when people you know and were close with do things to upset, hurt you, or make you angry. I’ve learned not to listen to them because all they are is jealous of what your doing or who you have become. Another obstacle is with my mom being a Single Mom and affording dance and having to be there for not only me, but my sister as well. With all that said and overcome, I know 2018 will be MY YEAR and I’M READY FOR IT!
DA: What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given during your dance career?
Austin: The best piece of advice I have gotten is staying true to who you are and being yourself and yourself only.
DA: What do you foresee yourself doing with dance in the future?
Austin: Since I just got signed with Bloc Talent Agency in LA I see myself growing every month with more opportunities, such as dancing and acting on big network channels and in time choreographing and dancing with Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jason Derulo, Usher and so many more!!
DA: Anything else you want to share?
Austin: Something to watch for, everyday I post a new improv or something inspirational that has inspired me to grow as a dancer and person. I want everyone to know THAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING YOU DREAM AND SET YOUR MIND TO! Thank you all for believing in me and I would not be here without you guys! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
